Fainting goats are born with a condition called Myotonia congenita, which affects how they react to being startled. Instead of tensing up for a split second and then relaxing, a fainting goat’s muscles stay tense, causing the goat to stiffen or even fall over. Curiously, they never lose consciousness during the faint.
We hand bottle feed and dam raise goats depending on the parents and new owners requests. A strong emphasis on personality is part of our breeding program so that bottle feeding is not always required to create the friendliest pet.
Our primary goal is to provide friendly, fun, playful pets. Kids are handled at birth and daily. As soon as they are are old enough they are taken for walk with their Mom. Often they are walked with our dogs and learn to follow along.
Our goats are often run among our other animals and for safety reasons we disbud all of our goats. Kids will be disbudded within a few weeks of birth. Sometimes scurs still occur later in life. If horns are desired by new owners it must be discussed within the first couple weeks of birth and a non-refundable payment in full will be required.
If not interested in breeding, wethers are a great option and are full of personality without the odor or behaviors. Wethers can still develop the extreme hair coats and are able to be shown at MSFGA shows. To retain integrity of the breed only exceptional intact bucklings will be sold. Bucklings will be banded at 12 weeks unless prior arrangements are made by new owners.
Our emphasizes is made on correct conformation and personality. When showing hair quality and size can make a difference in the Silky world. When everything comes together champions are born. If you are interested in showing your goat I recommend that you review the Miniature Silky Fainting Goat Associations and Myotonic Fainting Goat websites for more information. Most of our goats are registered with the Miniature Silky Fainting Goat Association or Myotonic Goat Association. However, if you are looking for just a friendly unique pet, a non-registered goat may be for you. They typically are more economical, just as cute, and can eat brush just like the rest of them. Regardless if registered or not all of goat under go the same health and care. On occasion we may have non-registered goats available, just let us know your needs.
Our goats are tested annually for CAE, CL, and Johne's. Kids will be from parents that were tested within that year. We only breed within the herd and don't accept untested goats on to the farm. All goats are kept up to date of vaccines, hoof trimmings, disbudded, and microchipped. Kids will be fully vaccinated and hooves trimmed before going to there new homes.
We want our goats to have good caring homes. The long term cost of caring for a goat should always be considered when making a purchase. Our goats sell between $200-$600 depending on the breed, sex, and parents. The Silky doelings and bucklings are typically more expensive. If buying more then one a discount will be considered. Transportation can be arranged at additional cost depending on location.
